Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SelfMeditate (the "App") handles information when you use it.
SelfMeditate is owned and operated by Unathi Studios Ltd. ("Unathi Studios", "we", "us", "our").
We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how the App works.
1. Overview (Plain Summary)
- We do not read, upload, or store your insights, journal entries, or meditation content on our servers.
- Your personal content (including insights, journals, and meditation data) is stored locally on your device.
- We do not sell your data.
- Payments and subscriptions are handled by the Platform (App Store / Google Play).
- To operate subscriptions, our subscription provider (RevenueCat) collects limited data (e.g. identifiers, purchase status) for subscription management only—this does not include your insights, journal entries, or meditation content. See Section 4 for details.
2. Personal Content We Do Not Collect
We do not collect or store on our servers the content you create in the App, including:
- insights and analytics computed from your meditation practice and journaling,
- journal text, drawings, images, photos, or attachments,
- voice recordings or audio notes,
- meditation reflections, presence ratings, or written insights,
- meditation session history, durations, or timestamps.
Your Personal Content (including all insights) stays on your device by default, and we cannot view it.
3. Local-First Storage (Default)
SelfMeditate is designed to store your Personal Content locally on your device, for example using device storage and a local SQLite database.
We do not:
- upload your Personal Content to our servers,
- back up or restore your Personal Content from our systems.
Because data is stored locally:
- uninstalling the App may permanently delete your Personal Content,
- changing devices may result in data loss,
- we cannot recover lost or deleted data.
Your operating system or device backup settings (e.g., iCloud device backup) may back up App data depending on your device configuration. We do not control those backups.
3.1 iOS Widgets and Live Activities
If you use iOS widgets or Live Activities:
- Widgets (Streak / Quote / Quick Start) may read limited App data stored locally in an App Group to display stats and daily quotes.
- The daily quotes shown are curated app content (drawn from classical texts and wisdom traditions, sometimes in modern language); they are not your personal data.
- Live Activities may display the timer and session status on your lock screen and Dynamic Island while a session is running.
- This information is stored and processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
You can remove widgets or disable Live Activities in iOS settings at any time.
4. Technical Data We May Process
To support subscriptions, our service providers (primarily RevenueCat) may process limited technical data required for subscription validation, such as:
- subscription entitlement and purchase validation status,
- platform purchase tokens/receipts (from App Store / Google Play),
- device identifiers (as required by platforms for subscription validation).
This technical data:
- does not include your Personal Content,
- is used only for subscription access control,
- is processed by RevenueCat under their privacy policy.
We do not collect crash reports, error logs, or performance diagnostics.
5. Insights and Analytics
The App provides insights and analytics about your practice (e.g., patterns, presence trends, journaling frequency).
- Insights are computed locally on your device using your on-device data.
- We do not receive your insight results or Personal Content.
- If you choose to share an insight, sharing is user-initiated via your device's native share sheet. We do not receive the shared content.
6. Subscriptions and Payments
All payments, free trials, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled by the Platform:
- Apple App Store, or
- Google Play Store.
We do not:
- receive your full payment details,
- store credit card information,
- process refunds directly.
Your platform account and the Platform may process billing information under their own privacy policies.
7. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate key functions:
- RevenueCat (subscription and entitlement validation),
- Expo (build services and app updates).
These services receive only the minimum information required to function and do not receive your journal/meditation content from us.
Each third party processes data under its own privacy policy and applicable data protection laws.
8. Permissions
The App may request access to device features, including:
- Microphone (voice recordings),
- Camera / Photos (image attachments),
- Files / Storage (file attachments),
- Notifications (daily quotes and reminders),
- Live Activities (iOS, for lock screen / Dynamic Island timer display).
Permissions are optional. If you deny a permission, the related feature may not work.
You can change permissions at any time in your device settings.
9. Data Export
The App can export your Personal Content locally on your device:
- journal entries (PDF),
- media (voice recordings, drawings, images, attachments),
- full archive export (ZIP).
Exported files are generated locally and can be shared using your device's share options. We do not receive exported data unless you choose to send it to us.
10. Children's Privacy
SelfMeditate is not intended for children under 16 (or the age of digital consent in your region).
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the App without appropriate consent, please contact us.
11. Data Retention
We do not retain Personal Content on our servers because we do not collect it.
We do not collect crash reports or technical diagnostics. Subscription-related data (identifiers, purchase status) is collected by our subscription provider (RevenueCat) for subscription management only, as described in Section 4; it is handled according to their privacy policy.
12. Your Rights
Depending on your location (including the UK and EU), you may have rights to:
- request information about data we process,
- object to certain processing,
- lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
Because we do not collect Personal Content or operate user accounts for the App, some requests may be limited in scope. You can always control your Personal Content directly on your device (export, delete, or clear all data).
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date will be revised accordingly.
Continued use of the App means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
